Hey Valley Villagers!
We’re just cackling at having shared a first look at the Season of Scares free update in our latest [Developer Update] video! Now, let’s dive into what you can expect from this update.
In Season of Scares, you'll meet the trickster Oogie Boogie, from Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, in a six-week Halloween bash for the ages! This time you'll need to complete a series of thrilling challenges to unlock Jack Skellington's rival and a ghostly canine.
Disney Dreamlight Valley’s Season of Scares free update arrives on September 23, 2026. Check out all the details below!
NEW CONTENT OVERVIEW
To kick off the events of Season of Scares, you’ll need to unlock The Peaceful Meadow, Scrooge McDucks's Store and Chez Remy's restaurant.
- Investigate a strange mirror that has appeared in Scrooge McDuck's shop and enter it to discover Oogie Boogie's lair!
- Now here's the trick – this time instead of unlocking Oogie Boogie first and then tackling his quests, you'll earn your rewards and unlock him by playing through his tricky challenges, from September 23rd to November 4th.
- Complete all six weeks of Oogie Boogie's challenges, from choosing to (or not to) go along with his schemes, all the way to a final showdown
— to permanently welcome him into your Valley! - At some point in your weekly trials, you may encounter a ghostly loyal companion ... That’s right – in one of Oogie Boogie’s quests you’ll be able to unlock Zero, from Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas.
- Beware, after November 4th, Oogie Boogie will be leaving the Valley until Halloween next year... but worry not! As long as you begin the first of these quests before November 4, you’ll be able to unlock Oogie Boogie and Zero at your own pace.
- Along with the Season of Scares arrives the frightfully delightful Haunting Elegance Star Path! Charm all your trick-or-treating guests with new bewitching attires and adorn your Valley with new dark whimsical furniture pieces. Give your house a festive new look with the Tricks and Treats House and get Scrooge McDuck in the mood for a good scare with the perfect Skeleton Scrooge Dream Style.
- October 7th marks the return of the Haunted Floating Festival event! Until October 31st, explore the decorated festival grounds to discover new and returning puzzles, and earn exclusive seasonal decorations for solving them!
- Then, Starting October 14th until October 31st, the Trick or Treat event is back, featuring an all-new way to earn candy! Collect frightfully delicious Trick-or-Treater's Bounty from around the Plaza, or now, by going door to door, trick-or-treating at houses that feature a jack-o'-lantern outside! New rewards for this year include Disney Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Halloween Town exterior decorations!
- Arriving to the Premium Shop this update is the Evil & Good Witch Bundle, featuring new wickedly magical attires, enchanting new furniture pieces and matching bee-witching companions.

DECORATING
Presets Code Sharing
Decoration Presets codes are here!
- Create and share your Presets with other Valley Villagers using code sharing! By selecting Share Presets in the Presets option menu, you'll now be able to generate a unique code that can be given to others to use.
- Codes are valid for 14 days, even if the creator of the Preset has changed or removed their creation.
- We've also updated the Mirage function.
- If an item can be found in the Premium Shop, you will be redirected to it.
- If the item is from a current Star Path, it will redirect you to the correct page.
- If the item was from a limited series or bundle, and/or is not currently available, you will see a pop-up saying, “This item is not available for now.”
Mirages in Edit Mode
Remove creative blockers with Mirage, or two.
- If you’re low on decorations when using the Duplicate option in Edit Mode, you will no longer need to stop and go searching for items. Instead, you’ll place a Mirage placeholder and be able to continue creating!
Floating Islands
- As of this update, we're helping further unlock your decorative creativity by allowing for some functional buildings around the Valley and stalls, including most character stalls, to now be placed on floating islands.
- The following can be moved to any Floating Island:
- Tiana’s Palace
- The Boutique
- Olaf’s Grand Exhibition
- Stables
- Valley Visit Station (however, you won’t be able to interact with it when it’s on a Floating Island).
- WALL•E's Garden
- Moana's Boat
- Beast's Greenhouse
- Aladdin's Gem Stall
- Kristoff’s Stall
- Mulan’s Tea Stall
- Tiana's Meal Stall
Expansion versions of these buildings and stalls can also be moved to that expansion’s floating islands.
New Biome Crafting Recipes
We're expanding the new Biome-specific crafting recipes!
- In Season of Scares, you’ll be able to complete a mysterious array of new witchy-inspired arcane furniture pieces for your Forest of Valor.
Clear Biome
Finally arriving in this update is an all-new way to remove items from any of your Biomes!
- You ‘ll be able to toggle and choose if you want to clear Furniture (furniture and decorations), Landscaping (decorative trees, bushes, and rocks), Fences, and/or Paths from any decorated Biome (or Sub-Biome for expansions).
STAR PATH
Apple Arcade Star Path
That's right, if you play on Apple Arcade, you'll now also get new Star Path events every update! The first Apple Arcade Star Path, Haunting Elegance, will launch later this October. These will function similarly to the regular Star Paths on consoles, with the following differences:
- There will be no Premium Track or Premium Rewards.
- There will be no Moonstones or purchasable Tokens.
- Weekly Routine Duties will be replaced by Daily Duties.
- Instead of Routine Duties engagement unlocking Vault rewards, you will have Daily Duties unlocking “Milestone Rewards”.
- These rewards will be made up of consumable items like Star Coins, Dreamlight, Potions, etc.
New Introductory Star Path
Participate in a new permanent Star Path: The Astronomer's Journey Star Path.
- After having unlocked your first realm and speaking to Merlin, you'll be able to start completing this new introductory Star Path.
- Progress at your own pace by completing quests around the Valley to unlock special astronomy-based rewards.
- As with all other introductory quests, this Star Path can only be completed once.
For Apple Arcade players, this will be available in our next free update.
EVENTS
Event Board
In this update, we’re introducing the Event Board.
- While completing The Astronomer’s Journey Star Path, you will be introduced to the new Event Board, which you’ll be asked to place in the Plaza.
- The Event Board is a physical item in your Valley that allows you to keep track of up to three live events without having to search your Menu!
For Apple Arcade players, this will be available in our next free update.
PHOTO MODE
We've made improvements to Photo Mode that will make it easier than ever to share your favorite pics!
My Saved Photos
- You’ll now be able to save up to 12 photos from Photo Mode.
- These saved pictures can be viewed, submitted to DreamSnaps (if eligible), shared with friends (by creating a QR code), or shared to your DreamTeams feed.
- Saved pictures can be deleted at any time.
DreamSnaps Archive
- Your recent DreamSnaps submissions will be auto saved in the DreamSnaps Archive once the Challenge is done, and results are sent, for up to 6 months.
- You’ll also be able to pin up to 3 favorites to keep them!
- Pinned DreamSnaps are never auto-removed.
- Unpinned DreamSnaps are removed once their expiration timer runs out.
QR Codes
- You’ll now be able to generate QR codes for your saved pictures that will last 7 days.
- You’ll be able to have 12 codes at a time.
Also important to note that your Photo Gallery and DreamSnaps Archive will live on your online profile, so you'll want to stay signed in and active to keep them saved!
- If you don't play for 180 days, Saved Photos and DreamSnaps Archive entries are deleted automatically.
Finally, sharing a photo on the DreamTeams feed or generating a QR code doesn't remove it from your Photo Gallery.
Emotes Wheel
- You'll now be able to strike a pose and emote outside of Photo Mode with the new Emote Wheel!
- At launch, there will be 11 free emotes available for use.
- You’ll be able to perform these emotes in multiplayer and watch your friends react to them, or around your own Villagers and see their reactions!
DREAMSNAPS
Super Votes
Introducing a new “Super Vote” option!
- To help reward the most mesmerizing submissions, you’ll be able to vote for BOTH presented DreamSnaps at the same time using a Super Vote!
- You’ll have 2 Super Votes per day.
Updated Visual Interface
- We’ve updated the UI in the 1v1 voting screens to standardize the way DreamSnaps are presented. This means both images will occupy the same amount of space.
- You'll still have the option to view any image in “full screen” before voting.
MISC
Map Improvements
- We've started rolling out improvement on the Map that will help reduce clutter, contains more information, and overall makes it easier to interact with your Villagers:
- Map Uncluttering which redistributes the character icons when they are in the same building.
- Cursor proximity mode makes icons fan out when the cursor is placed over them for simpler selection.
- On-hover cursor info is updated.
- A new Avatar orientation indicator tells you which way you’re facing.
- Missing labels, icons, and caves have been added.

- For the first time, you'll be able to update Villager Houses with their own House Skins, starting with the Snowy Beast’s Castle!
General Economy Update
In the Season of Scares, we've rolled out updates on the value of various in-game content, like the cost of unlocking Realms, or Villager houses, to provide an overall more cohesive gameplay experience. See details here: LINK
